I am in love with love; to the point where I get excited or giddy just thinking about finding true love. However, in wisdom of age I have to stop looking at love as a fairy tale and realize it takes work. Of course, I am a woman who enjoys a great book and intellectual conversation about love. So any one who really knows me would not be shocked that I have read all the latest and greatest on love; and how to be prepared when my “Adam” finds his good thing in me. I mean I have read everything from A Belle In Brooklyn (Demetria L Lucas) to The Conversation (Hill Harper). I just love the concept; the ideal, the passion, and understanding that is LOVE! Yet one book that has spoken the most to me is The Five Love Languages (Dr. Gary Chapman). I dare say it is on my top five list.

Dr. Gary Chapman, Christian counselor and author of The Five Love Languages, writes about the importance of being able to express love to your spouse in a way that your spouse can understand. He calls this a type of communication using the five love languages.

Chapman’s Five Emotional Love Languages:

Words of Affirmation

This is when you say how nice your spouse looks, or how great the dinner tasted. These words will also build your mate’s self-image and confidence.

Quality Time

Some spouses believe that being together, doing things together and focusing on one another is the best way to show love. (Undivided attention)

Gifts

It is universal in human cultures to give gifts. They don’t have to be expensive to send a powerful message of love.

Acts of Service

Discovering how you can best do something for your spouse will require time and creativity. These acts of service like vacuuming, hanging a bird feeder, planting a garden, etc., need to be done with joy in order to be perceived as a gift of love.

Physical Touch

Sometimes just stroking your spouse’s back, holding hands or a peck on the cheek will fulfill this need (http://marriage.about.com/cs/communicationkeys/a/lovelanguage.htm)

* READ the BOOK. It is wonderful and very eye opening for anyone who is serious about building a strong foundation for a great relationship

So since discovering this wonderful ideal of love languages I have spent countless conversations sharing this news with my friends and family, and trying to get them to figure out their primary love language as well as READ the book. Also, I made sure to figure out their love language so I could express my love to them in a way that would be most effective in their life. Not to mention, I am ecstatic about the day a great man comes into my life and I share this with him (I will ask him to read the book…then do a book discussion with me. I am one of those women ) But in trying to figure out my love life and my friends’ love life; I realized I had not asked myself the question: What is God’s love language? Then it hit me; He is the only person that has and will never let me down. He loves me more than I love myself; so why am I not focusing more on His love language? To make sure our love continues to grow; that He understands that I put no one or thing above His love. So I have decided that God’s primary love languages are Quality Time and Words of Affirmation; oddly enough those are my top two love languages, but of course they are… I was made in His image!

So I am writing to say that my God is a great God; my alpha and omega, comforter, healer, way maker, and provider. Also above all else He is my salvation. So I want to take this time to say thank you God for being all of those things and more; words can not express my love and appreciation. Yet, every day that You give life to my body I want to do my best to make sure You know You are GREAT and receive all the glory! With that I challenge anyone reading this. If you know that you believe in love and seek love in your life, first dedicate some time in getting to know Love (God) in a deeper way. Understand His love language and make sure you express love to Him in everything you do. Every book that I spoke about has been enlightening in my life, and I encourage everyone to READ; but if you read nothing else, read the greatest love story ever written… read the Book of Life (The Bible) and spend time in it; then spend time with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This is a war cry because I believe in love and desire for it to grow in this world. So I leave you with this; when is the last time you made sure God felt your love for Him?

Greetings To Whoever Reads:

Last night I read “Just Do Something” by Kevin DeYoung and I wanted to write. At Rickards High, one of the schools where I do youth programming, we work with a program called Challenge Day and their catch phrase is “If you really knew me…” So, I will share using that appropriate catch phrase.

If you really knew me…you would know I struggle often with anxiety and making sure I am fulfilling my purpose in life… To the point that I don’t sleep as well and get back pains. Now I am a woman who knows the power of God and keeps Him at the head of my life. So you ask why such bad anxiety…that was my concern as well. I worry about the usual things… Am I succeeding in the right career field? Will I date/marry the right man? Heck, will I get married? (lol) Will I make a good mother if God gives me children? Will I be a good companion for my husband? How will I pay off all my school loans? Am I making my family proud? Am I fulfilling God’s will for my life?

Now God’s will was a big one for me then, “Just Do Something” was introduced to me. DeYoung did a wonderful job of making me stop looking at God’s will like it’s a secret treasure that God expects me to find. And before I make any decisions in life I should ask God to spell it out because I don’t want to take the risk and be wrong; As if God gave me free will just to ask Him everything and for Him to lay it all out before I make any moves. DeYoung points outs that God’s will shall come to pass because He is in control of all things. Now I struggled with that because I know there are times that I take risks or chances and it does not work out and I end up feeling horrible. But then DeYoung says that moment was part of God’s will for my life. The point is to have faith in God and not so much focus on the “answer” from God but focus on three things: seek to be more like God( read the Word), seek wisdom and counsel from Godly individuals, and PRAY! Pray that God will help you to be more like Him in whatever decision you do make.

Now this concept seemed so simple in the book but did not give me that much comfort because anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to talk things out and feel like I walked away with a wonderful understanding so I can make the right choice. But that was the point of such a simple concept and book title “Just Do Something.” I cannot remain paralyzed waiting on the “answer” I have to know that I am constantly seeking to be more like God and that wisdom alone will be more comfort no matter what the outcome shall be to a decision I make. So in 2011, I choose to take all the risks my heart desires and as long my heart is the reflection of God’s image how can I go wrong? So yes…I choose to love hard without any reservations, I choose to be someone who believes the world can be changed by kindness and hard work, and lastly I choose to keep making a choice because I know tomorrow is not promised and I have to live today for today!

Of course this was not all the book offered but this is what came off my heart today. I am not saying that I don’t have issues with feeling doubtful. But at least now I am not so hard on myself that things did not work out like I thought they would because “God did not allow it to happen.” I know that I am in God’s will because in this moment if it has happened and He brought me through it; then God’s will was done! Hugs and Kisses to all and keep reading. Reading is the new SEXY!!! Lol

Journey to Success
(Destination, Purpose, Goals, Strategy, Action, and Progress)

Planning for success is much like planning a ROAD TRIP! You need to know where you’re going, why you’re going, and how you’ll get there. You also need to pack the necessary tools to ensure you’re fully equipped for the ride and prepared for the arrival. The goal of the Journey to Success program is to empower individuals to strategize for the future they wish to have. The program teaches them simple life changing techniques that help them to personalize their journey to success by developing a strategic personal success plan.

Invest in the Product, the Packaging will come…

Youth must realize that if you want the glam you must put in the work. The “packaging” is not the sustaining factor in success. It’s the quality of the “product” that makes it a legacy. The goal is to bring to the attention of youth the importance of being themselves, investing in their education, and understanding that an original will always be worth more than the copy.

“I’ll take my SIZE!”

Women and young ladies know that you can not wear a shoe if it doesn’t fit…no matter how cute it is! Well, I believe identity is just like shoes. If it’s not your size, then you can not walk in your purpose to the best of your ability. This will examine how your Self Identity is custom made for your destiny.

Real L.O.V.E.
(Living One’s Vision Everyday)

This is a love story. Women tend to love hard; and at times lose themselves. This speech deals with self-development and self- worth. It’s about one understanding who they are and what their purpose is in life and how to fulfill that purpose. This speaks to women and young ladies about loving hard and still holding on to themselves as individuals. It’s the ultimate self-embracing experience.

S.O.S (Service Over Self)

In the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” This is a call to action for individuals who truly have a desire to make a change via service. I speak about how service can impact the lives of others and ultimately your own life. We have an inherent desire to help; so how does one make a life and not just a living?

“Destiny… I’m ALL IN!”

Destiny…I AM ALL IN! You know you have a destiny, but how do you reach it? This is for the individual that is ready to say DESTINY… I AM ALL IN! If you are ready to make that statement; this speech will give you the next steps to make that DESTINY happen.

Awareness Ribbon

This is dedicated to my first college friend, Kristal Johnson, a rock star in her own light. She passed away at the young age of 27; only a few years after college. Kristal was a phenomenal cheerleader on and off the field. This speech talks about how life is short and tomorrow is not promised. The time is now to make your legacy known. I look back and all I really have of Kristal is the awareness ribbon I wore at her funeral. I also have the impact that she made on my life as a friend. This speech is a challenge to all and asks the question…what is your Awareness Ribbon saying about your life?

“I’ll take my SIZE!”

Women and young ladies know that you can not wear a shoe if it doesn’t fit…no matter how cute it is! Well, I believe identity is just like shoes. If it’s not your size, then you can not walk in your purpose to the best of your ability. This will examine how your Self Identity is custom made for your destiny.

“I’m Expecting”

Fulfilling your purpose, I imagine, is a lot like having a baby. Well, this speech will help you discover the signs of your pregnancy and what you are having. This speech will examine how one must prepare for their gift and be prepared when everything does not go as planned.
